look
I think we both felt it.
Our gazes fixed ahead.
Occupied with glimmers of something new,
bright and magnetic.
Without looking,
hearts ablaze,
We charged forwards,
without looking down.
When a fleeting cloud passed
and the glimmer flickered,
we became aware
of the thin line on which we stood.
One side, a plunge
a sharp descent,
familiar pain;
the other, unknown
impossible to predict,
humming with potential.
It didn’t concern us before,
we never considered the fall.
Our minds too full of glimmers,
we did not think of looking down.
Now that we have,
now that we know the risks,
Where will we look?
