look
I think we both felt it.
We were looking up.
Occupied with glimmers of something new,
something bright and magnetic.
We jumped
Without knowing where we’d land.
When a fleeting cloud passed,
casting a brief shadow,
we became aware
of the thin line on which we stand —
0ne side, a plunge into familiar pain;
the other, endless and shimmering.
It didn’t concern us before,
we never considered the fall,
we did not think of looking down.
Now that we have,
will we choose to look up?
